This is my journey to become a freelancer for National Geographic
I am a twenty something idealist. I am a photojournalist. My life is simple and all the while frustratingly confusing. I am documenting my journey and dream to shoot a freelancing gig for National Geographic.
I am a student at the University of Oklahoma and involved in student media on campus — specifically the Oklahoma Daily. As the Visual Engagement editor, I am constantly seeking the opportunity to hone my skills. But I am also just trying to finish a degree without too much debt.
I don’t really know how long it will take me to reach my goal of shooting for National Geographic, but I figure I’d share my experiences, lessons, failures and obstacles with the rest of the world. Maybe someone out there could benefit from what I have done or not done.
I am also a photojournalist in the Air National Guard. The military has given and will continue to give me opportunities to travel the world. So far, I’ve been to Japan and Hawaii. The future may hold Europe, Africa, South America, Antarctica, etc. Really, the world is just one flight away. But the world is also in my back yard.
The world is the moments as we define them.
I hope you join me on this life path.
